It was a disappointing night for the Labour Party, who held their election function at Te Māhurehure Marae in Auckland's Point Chevalier. Campaign manager Willie Jackson said while the campaign had been "terrific", Labour could not discount the Te Pāti Māori "brand".

Brigitte Morten is a director with public and commercial law firm Franks Ogilvie and a former senior ministerial advisor for the previous National-led government, a National Party member and currently volunteering for the party's deputy leader, Nicola Willis. Neale Jones was Chief of Staff to Labour Leader Jacinda Ardern, and prior to that was Chief of Staff to Andrew Little. He is the director of public affairs firm Capital. He is currently providing PR support for Andrew Little's Campaign for Mayor of Wellington, on a voluntary basis.

A Wellington protester's sign makes reference to Public Service Minister Judith Collins' error when she said that on average a teacher with 10 years' experience was on an annual salary of $140,000. Collins later said she mixed up her messages and had apologised for the error.
