E kore au e ngaro, tōku reo rangatira—the reo Māori journey is different for everyone. In this Hīkoi Reo series, Hori explores the experience of growing up in Ōtaki, which is now considered one of the most bilingual towns in Aotearoa. He tamaiti o Raukawa Kōhanga Reo. Hori went on to a "mainstream" college, where he made a conscious decision to stop speaking Māori. It would take nearly two decades to return home to Ōtaki to relearn his language. "I owe a lot to Te Wānanga o Raukawa for opening my eyes again to te ao Māori. This has been an integral part of my mahi toi and whānau life."
